Fishing Outlook

May

  • The salmon are feeding hard & average 10 – 20 pounds with the chance of exceeding 30 pounds.
  • Halibut average 15 - 30 pounds.
  • Coho are quite small this time of year.
  • Inshore fishing for Chinooks inside Barkley sound can be good.
  • June

  • The fishing really ramps up this month and limits of Chinook and Halibut are normal.
  • Chinook are growing and average 10 - 25 pounds.
  • Fishing can be good inshore as well as offshore.
  • Halibut are going strong with the limits of “chickens” averaging 15 - 30 pounds.
  • July

  • Fishing offshore continues to be great with Chinook averaging 15 – 25 pounds and some reaching 30 – 40 pounds.
  • Coho have grown to 6 – 10 pounds and fishing can be fast and furious as migrating schools pass by.
  • Halibut continues to be great all month.
  • Weather is usually great & fishing is outstanding.
  • August

  • Time for the big boys to return to Barkley sound. Chinook are in the 25 – 35 pound range with some catches at over 40 pounds.
  • Offshore fishing continues to be good for a mixed bag of Coho, Chinook, and Halibut.
  • September

  • Runs of mature fish continue to enter Barkley Sound.
  • Off shore fishing collects large numbers of now mature Coho, which have reached 8 – 15 pounds and quite often over 20 pounds.
  • Chinooks are a mixed bag of 10 – 30 pounds feeder and mature fish.
  • Halibut are still present.
